Q1 2024 Market Report Much like the close of 2023, the Monterey Peninsula's real estate market had a sleepy start to 2024. The typical rainy and windy weather conditions throughout the opening months of the year paired with continued economic pressure on both the entry level and luxury ends of the market led to a slow first two months of the year. The entry level market remained uneasy due to lingering elevated interest rates. The higher end of the market stayed slow over the winter months due to macro-economic uncertainty, geopolitical concerns, and other distractions that kept most affluent buyers on the sidelines. Luckily, as we moved into March, we felt a surge of activity. After 91 new listings in January and 98 more in February, March saw 152 new listings come to market. This was the highest number of new listings we have seen come on the market in one calendar month since June of 2022. |
Kean Matthams was born into a life of architecture, art, and design. Kean's father, legendary local architect and designer John Matthams, has been teaching Kean his approach to envisioning and designing iconic homes built to maximize the incredible settings of Pebble Beach and Carmel. After graduating from Stevenson School in Pebble Beach and SMU in Dallas, Kean spent several years in New York City and Los Angeles involved in art and film. Kean has extensive experience creating and producing compelling stories via digital and video messaging. He is extremely capable on both sides of a camera, which has proven to be a very valuable tool in marketing luxury Real Estate. Kean is smart, dedicated and hard working. Together with his partners, Sharon Matthams and Emily Weidner, Kean pushes a little harder each day to ensure he is living up to the quality, integrity and success his family has demonstrated for over 40 years. When Kean is not showing Real Estate he can be found walking his dog Allie on Carmel Beach, running the recreation trail along the coast, or hiking in Big Sur with his camera and tripod in tow.
Sharon and John Matthams traveled the world over and chose to call Carmel and Pebble Beach home nearly 40 years ago. For 30 years, while raising her family Sharon helped "Make the Going Great" as a Pan Am Flight Attendant. Husband John launched an architectural and design firm and began what would become a legendary career as one of the most iconic architects and designers shaping the future of living in Carmel and Pebble Beach.
After her sons Chason and Kean graduated from RLS and moved away to attend university; Chason to NYU and Kean to SMU, Sharon launched her career in Real Estate. As a point of transition into Real Estate Emily has built her own Real Estate Video and Digital content creation and distribution business. This business produces compelling videos for homes for sale, and then uses her marketing experience to gain extraordinary exposure through a variety of digital and social media channels including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and others. Emily has also recently worked in the Real Estate Transaction Management business, helping design improved process for the highly complicated brokerage transaction. In this role Emily has had to learn effective ways to handle the array of variables that make up a successful Real Estate transaction.
